MUMBAI
In a historic night for Indian gaming, Anuhith Gosala clinched the Clash Royale gold medal at the Global Esports Games, securing a World Championship title on home soil. Playing before a roaring Mumbai crowd, Gosala defeated Kazakhstan’s Miras in a heart-stopping 3-2 grand final that went down to the wire.
The path to gold was a masterclass in resilience. Earlier in the tournament, Kazakhstan had sent India to the lower bracket with a 2-0 sweep. However, Gosala battled back, eliminating the USA 2-1 to earn a rematch in the finals. With the pressure of a home audience on his shoulders, Gosala flipped the script, overcoming his previous loss to Miras to stand atop the podium.
“Hearing the cheers, feeling that energy, and lifting this title for the country is an indescribable pride,” an emotional Gosala said after the match. “This is for India.”
More Medals for Team India
The success wasn’t limited to Clash Royale. India also made their mark in DOTA 2, securing a bronze medal after a tough battle against Mongolia in the lower bracket finals. Turkiye ultimately took the DOTA 2 gold, defeating Mongolia 3-1 in the final.
A Milestone for Mumbai
Paul J. Foster, CEO of the Global Esports Federation, praised Mumbai for its “exceptional energy and hospitality,” noting that the event has solidified India’s position as a powerhouse in the global esports and AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics) ecosystem. This double-medal finish marks one of India’s most successful outings in international esports, proving that the country’s players are ready to dominate the world stage.
