Chikkamagaluru:
A passenger travelling from Shivamogga to Tarikere on the Talaguppa–Mysuru Express left behind her vanity bag in the second-class coach. The bag, belonging to Roopa L. from Tarikere, held valuable items including 118 grams of gold jewellery and ₹20,000 in cash.
After disembarking, Roopa realised the oversight and immediately informed staff at Tarikere station. Railway personnel quickly alerted the station master at Birur and the Government Railway Police (GRP). Thanks to their coordinated effort, the bag was located as soon as the train arrived at Birur.A thorough check of the coach confirmed its presence, and the contents were verified intact.
The recovered bag and all valuables were securely preserved before being formally handed over at the GRP police station in Birur. Roopa L. and her husband Yogesh B. received the items in an official procedure overseen by Railway ASI Naveen.
Divisional Commercial Manager Girish Dharmaraj praised the swift response of the railway staff and police, highlighting their dedication to passenger property safety. Railway officials noted that this incident serves as a strong example: informing authorities promptly about forgotten belongings often leads to successful recovery with their assistance.
Eid-ul-Fitr Celebrated with Fervour Across Coastal Karnataka

The coastal region rang with Eid greetings and festive spirit on Friday as the Muslim community marked the auspicious Eid-ul-Fitr, concluding the holy month of Ramadan. Large gatherings filled mosques for special Eid prayers, followed by embraces, well-wishes, and family feasts.
In Mangaluru, the historic Bavutagudde Eidgah Masjid hosted a massive congregational namaz attended by Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader. Speaking to the media afterward, he emphasised that love, brotherhood, and harmonious coexistence form the true essence of festivals.
He called for collective efforts toward building a developed Karnataka and a strong India, urging everyone to move forward in unity. Khader prayed for global peace and tranquillity, noting that any war or unrest anywhere inflicts pain on all humanity. He appealed for the entire world to live as one family in solidarity.
Across Udupi district—in the city, Kaup, Brahmavar, Kundapura, Byndoor, Hebri, Karkala, and other taluks—devotees offered Eid namaz at mosques. Many women had separate arrangements for prayers at select locations. Early in the morning, eligible individuals distributed Fitr Zakat to the needy before donning new clothes and heading to mosques. Post-prayer, people exchanged heartfelt Eid Mubarak greetings.
While Dakshina Kannada and Udupi celebrated Eid on Friday, other parts of Karnataka will observe it on Saturday. In Mangaluru city, thousands gathered at various mosques for collective prayers, followed by warm hugs and greetings. Tight police security arrangements were in place across the city to ensure smooth and peaceful festivities.
