Dr. G.S. Shivrudrappa, widely acclaimed as a master poet who elevated the beauty of Kannada literature to a divine level, was remembered at a commemorative event titled “GSS: A Remembrance” organized at the Patrika Bhavan under the aegis of Rasthrakavi Dr. G.S. Shivrudrappa Foundation and Karnataka Working Journalists’ Association, District Unit. Speaking at the event, poet and journalist N. Ravikumar (Telex) highlighted that G.S.S. critically explored the aesthetic essence of Kannada poetry from folk traditions to the Pampa and Navodaya eras, blending literary beauty with spiritual depth. His research work “Soundarya Sameekshe”, developed under the guidance of his mentor Kuvempu, remains an invaluable contribution to Kannada literary criticism.

Ravikumar emphasized that G.S.S. transcended caste, religion, and social divisions in his writings, weaving universal humanism into his poetry. Through works on Sankranti, Muharram, and Christ, he propagated a message of inclusivity and interfaith harmony. His poems, rooted in the richness of life, revealed philosophical insights from devotional hymns to spiritual prayers.

Dr. Basavaraj T.N., lecturer at Kamala Nehru Women’s First Grade College, said in an era where humanity is increasingly neglected, G.S.S. stands as a beacon, nurturing global human consciousness akin to Kuvempu. Dr. Rajendra of Shiralkoppa Kadam First Grade College added that G.S.S.’s vision and literary contributions continue to inspire moral and social values in society.

Prof. Kiran Desai, president of the G.S. Shivrudrappa Foundation, chaired the programme, and K.S. Ishwarappa delivered the introductory remarks. Speakers noted that poetry, as a powerful medium, can rebuild humane society and promote love and equality across caste, religion, and linguistic barriers. Remembering G.S.S. is a call to instill his ideals in new generations, honoring his life and philosophy through literature and social consciousness.
