Beware of cyber fraudsters before paying traffic fines at a discounted rate

The state government has announced a discount on paying traffic fines, but fine payers need to be careful of cyber fraudsters

A 50 percent discount has been given for paying traffic fines from November 21 to December 12. However, cases of cyber fraudsters misusing this opportunity have come to light.

There are cases of fraudsters sending messages under the guise of the police department trying to trick people into clicking on a link to pay a fine. Therefore, the police have advised people not to respond to messages sent by cyber fraudsters and not to click on the links.

The public have been warned not to respond to messages, links, QR codes, or APK files sent by cybercriminals. Not to download the official app from Google Play Store, Apple Store, and other places.

Not to share personal information, passbook, bank password, OTPs, and online account details.

Keep your smartphone, computer, and apps updated regularly to protect against cyber threats.

There is a 50 percent discount on payment of fines for traffic violations registered through e-challan from November 21 to December 12. Motorists can pay fines for traffic violations by entering the vehicle registration number on BTP Astra, Karnataka State Police (KSP) app, Bangalore Traffic Police or Karnataka One website.

Apart from this, it is also possible to pay the fine by visiting the nearest traffic police stations, the Traffic Management Center on Infantry Road and providing the vehicle registration number details.

Recently, cyber criminals have been committing fraud by sending fake tax refund messages in the name of Income Tax Department. In this context, the Cyber ​​Police has issued important advice to the public.  

The Income Tax Department will never ask for your OTP, password or CVV via SMS or email.

Never click on any tax refund-related link provided in an unfamiliar message or email.

Always log in to the official website of the Income Tax Department to check the status of your refund.

If someone tries to provoke you into taking immediate action, or if they scare you, consider it a warning.

If someone threatens you, do not respond immediately, but report such numbers to the Sanchar Saathi Chakshu portal.

Do not share personal information like Aadhaar, PAN or bank details, with any unauthorized person or message, the Departent has notified.
