The Greater Bangalore Authority (GBA) has begun preparations for the National Pulse Polio drive, scheduled from December 21 to 24, 2025. GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao directed officials to create a detailed micro plan to ensure every child in the city receives polio drops safely and on time.
Speaking at a meeting held at the GBA head office, Rao said the plan must fully cover all four days of the campaign. He stressed that awareness programs should be organised across the city so every family understands the importance of Pulse Polio. He also instructed officials to involve students from nursing, medical, and paramedical colleges as volunteers to support the drive.
Mobile vaccination teams will be deployed in crowded locations such as bus stands, markets, metro and railway stations, malls, large parks, slums, and other high-density areas. These teams will help reach families who may otherwise miss the vaccination booths.
Special Commissioner Surolkar Vikas Kishore said that vaccination booths will operate on December 21 from 8 am to 5 pm. From December 22 to 24, health workers will go door-to-door to ensure every child is covered. Extra focus will be given to slum areas, migrant communities, and other densely populated pockets of the city.
All children from birth to five years must receive two drops of the polio vaccine. These will be available at clinics, primary health centres, maternity and referral hospitals, private hospitals, and medical college hospitals.
Rao also instructed officials to prepare the final list of beneficiaries eligible for welfare schemes under the five municipal corporations of the GBA. The meeting was attended by senior commissioners, health officials, and other department heads, who agreed to coordinate efforts for a smooth campaign.
