MLA urges strong measures to improve SSLC results in Mandya

Mandya MLA P. Ravikumar urged officials to improve SSLC results and strengthen essential services across the taluk

Mandya MLA P. Ravikumar has instructed officials to take all necessary steps to improve the SSLC results of students studying across Mandya taluk. Chairing the KDP quarterly progress review meeting at the Zilla Panchayat’s Kaveri Hall on Monday, he said complaints have been received about doctors not being present at some hospitals during night hours. He directed that doctors must be available in all hospitals at night, and where this is not possible, alternative arrangements should be ensured. Proposals must also be sent to the government to appoint doctors to required health centres.

He asked officials to verify whether all schools have adequate basic infrastructure and to prepare a list of buildings requiring repairs. Programmes to reduce students’ mental stress and regular counselling should be introduced to support their academic and emotional development.

Ravikumar said that registration has begun at paddy and ragi procurement centres and purchases will start soon. Agriculture schemes must be widely publicised through group calls, posters and Raitha Samparka Kendras. In Mandya taluk, 15 farmers have received subsidies for micro-irrigation and 11 for onion storage units. Officials were asked to use social media to raise awareness about various schemes.

He also expressed concern about adulteration in animal feed, which is affecting livestock health, and directed officials to conduct checks. With sericulture expanding in the taluk, he noted that Mandya jaggery, once famous for its quality, is now receiving complaints. Food safety officers were told to form special teams to inspect jaggery units.

The MLA said that 1,667 ineligible BPL users have been removed from the list but stressed that cards must not be cancelled without assessing a family’s economic condition. He reviewed progress under the Yuva Nidhi scheme and hostel facilities, and warned banks against forcing farmers into loan repayment. He also instructed officials to act against illegal late-night liquor sales and to address rising leopard sightings by installing traps where necessary.
