K’taka cabinet approves winter session in Belagavi

BENGALURU

The Karnataka cabinet has decided to hold the winter session of the state legislature in Belagavi for 10 days starting December 8, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil announced on Thursday. The decision aims to continue the tradition of conducting at least one session each year in the northern district to address regional concerns.

Minister Patil stated that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been authorized to make the final decision regarding the session’s details and scheduling. The cabinet also reviewed pending matters related to key committees that have not submitted their reports for over six months.

Among them is the Justice John Michael D’Cunha committee, which was set up to examine the procurement of medicines and medical equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. Another committee, led by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, is responsible for reviewing the financial conditions of Karnataka’s universities and recommending corrective steps.

A third committee, headed by Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara, is reviewing progress on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project and will suggest measures for its future development.

Patil said the cabinet directed all three sub-committees to submit their reports at the earliest, even though no strict deadline was specified. “The government wants timely action on long-pending issues and full accountability from all departments,” he emphasized.

The upcoming session is expected to cover key legislative matters, regional development issues, and administrative reviews, with Belagavi’s Suvarna Vidhana Soudha once again serving as the venue for Karnataka’s winter legislative proceedings.
