Officials instructed to improve drainage, ensure durable white-topping and prioritize road safety.
BENGALURU
A large-scale cleanliness and inspection drive was conducted along the 5.3 km stretch from Vaddarapalya Circle to Hennur–Bagalur Road under the direction of Bengaluru East City Corporation Commissioner DS Ramesh, said Additional Commissioner (Development) Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar.
During the inspection of ongoing white-topping works, the Additional Commissioner observed that rainwater stagnation was causing inconvenience to commuters. He directed B-SMILE officials to strengthen drainage systems and ensure proper gradient planning during white-topping to prevent water accumulation. “Officers must ensure quality work and avoid damages that create problems for vehicle riders and pedestrians,” Sudhakar emphasized.
The cleanliness drive, which began at 6:00 a.m. and continued until noon, involved extensive efforts along both sides and the median of the Hennur–Bagalur Road up to DNR Parking. Around 60 tons of silt, 10 tons of waste, and construction debris, along with discarded household materials like sofas and mattresses, were removed during the campaign.
Additional tasks included black spot cleaning, pothole filling, clearing hanging cables, removal of unauthorized flex banners, and desilting of shoulder drains. Departments of road infrastructure, engineering, solid waste management, electrical, health, and sanitation from the Mahadevapura and K. R. Puram zones participated in the operation.
The drive mobilized 20 tractors, 6 auto tippers, 2 ladder jeeps, and over 180 Pourakarmikas. Senior officials, including Chief Engineers, Executive Engineers, Assistant General Manager (BSWML), Health Inspectors, Marshal Supervisors, and Ward Marshals, also took part, ensuring inter-departmental coordination for effective results.
The mass cleanliness and inspection drive marks a major step toward sustainable urban management. The East City Corporation reiterated its commitment to maintaining Bengaluru’s cleanliness and aesthetic appeal, with active citizen participation and regular follow-up drives planned to sustain these efforts, said Additional Commissioner Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar.
