Yadgir
Tensions have risen in Yadgir as plans for a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) road rally on November 4 in Kembavi have been obstructed. The Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS) raised objections to the traditional RSS garb, particularly the danda (stick), prompting a standoff between the two groups.
Both organizations had applied for permission to hold road marches in the area, but a negotiation meeting convened by the Taluk administration failed to reach a resolution. The DSS insisted that unregistered RSS volunteers should not carry the danda during the rally, citing safety concerns. On the other hand, the RSS maintains that full Purna Ganavesh, which includes a black hat, stick, white shirt, brown belt, khaki pants, socks, and black laced shoes, is essential for the movement. Volunteers are required to march silently in this attire, and the RSS argues that any rally without full garb would be incomplete.
The Taluk administration, unable to resolve the disagreement, decided to escalate the matter to the district administration for further review. The situation mirrors recent unrest in Kalaburagi, where an RSS road movement in Chittapur remains under legal scrutiny. The Kalaburagi High Court had expressed dissatisfaction over previous peace meetings that ended in tension and has adjourned further hearings. A hearing at the Advocate General’s office in Bengaluru, originally scheduled for November 5, has been postponed to November 7.
As of November 2, the RSS rally in Chittapur has faced a setback, and similar challenges are unfolding in Yadgir. Officials are carefully monitoring both regions to prevent clashes and maintain public order. The dispute highlights the ongoing friction between RSS practices and community groups who raise safety and social concerns during public demonstrations.
Authorities are expected to decide on permissions and guidelines in the coming days, ensuring that any road march proceeds without escalating local tensions while balancing the concerns of all parties involved.
