India’s passenger vehicle (PV) sector reached an all-time high in monthly sales this October, fuelled by GST rate rationalisation and robust festive demand, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Sunday.

According to official data, PV wholesales in the domestic market rose 17.23% year-on-year to 4,70,227 units in October 2025, compared to 4,01,105 units during the same period last year. This surpassed the previous record of 4,05,522 units set in January 2025, marking the strongest-ever performance in the country’s automobile market.

“The PV industry in India reached a record high in volumes this October, supported by GST reforms and strong festive buying,” Sitharaman posted on X. She added that several manufacturers achieved their best monthly sales ever, underscoring the positive impact of policy changes and consumer confidence.

Industry experts attribute the surge to reduced GST rates, attractive festive offers, and improved consumer sentiment. The momentum also signals renewed trust in the economy and optimism among buyers.

  • Kia India posted its best-ever monthly sales of 29,556 units.

  • Skoda Auto India achieved a record high with 8,252 units sold.

  • Nissan Motor India reported 9,675 units, marking a 45% month-on-month growth.

  • Mahindra’s Trucks and Buses division recorded 2,034 units in domestic and export sales, highlighting the industry-wide upswing.
