Adani Defence & Aerospace’s Kanpur Ammunition Complex was honoured with the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) Champion Award 2025 on Saturday. The award recognised the plant for strong design, precise manufacturing and rigorous testing of ammunition.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh presented the award at a ceremony attended by senior officials from the defence ministry and the company. Leaders praised the complex’s modern technology and its contribution to India’s aim of making more defence equipment at home.
Spread across 500 acres, the Kanpur facility uses automation and smart systems under Industry 4.0 to make small, medium and large calibre ammunition. Company executives said these systems improve safety, quality and production speed. The plant is now seen as a key part of India’s effort to build a reliable local supply for defence needs.
Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, said the award shows the company’s focus on homegrown technology and helping the country become self-reliant in defence. He added the complex will keep growing to meet India’s security needs.
The company said it plans large investments in coming years and will expand into making bigger calibre rounds and other defence gear. It also mentioned future work on missiles and high-tech equipment like drones and protective gear to support the Make in India aim.
Officials said the recognition boosts confidence in India’s defence industry and could help the country export more products. The award signals growing trust in private firms that support national security and local manufacturing. The company pledged continued training, jobs and partnerships with local suppliers and communities.
