Former Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri has demanded an investigation by the sitting judges into allegations that Speaker UT Khader unnecessarily called tenders and spent extra money to provide facilities such as a rosewood carved frame for the main entrance of the Legislative Assembly and smart doors for the rooms of the MLAs’ residence.
Speaking at a press conference at the BJP state office, he said that the post of Speaker should be cleared of the allegations against it. A lot of expenses have been incurred to install a rosewood carved frame at the main entrance of the assembly, a new TV set in the hall and an AI monitor system for it. All the MLAs have been given watches resembling men’s wrists. A machine has been installed in the assembly hall and transformed into a massage parlor. Also, the tender for the Speaker’s office is being given to people from Mangalore. This raises suspicions that UT Khader is involved in a corrupt scheme. Kageri has demanded a judicial investigation into these allegations.
Was it right for the Speaker to start serving lunch and breakfast to government Ministers and MLAs during the session. They had not only changed the bedspread and carpet but also painted it white. They installed smart door lockers in the MLAs’ rooms to increase security. They complained that although the market price for smart doors is 14 to 16 thousand, they have shown an expenditure of more than 49 thousand.
They charged Rs 35,000 for installing a smart safe locker along with a smart door, which is available for Rs 8-9,000. They charged Rs 90,500 for a smart energy solution, which is available for around Rs 30,000. Stainless steel water purifiers are available online for Rs 16,000 to Rs 53,000, and they charged Rs 65,000. They purchased 123 smart energy solutions. They purchased 224 safe lockers and the same number of door lockers, Kageri alleged.
