‘The government must take all preventive measures to avoid black marketing of fertiliszers and exploitation of farmers’
BENGALURU
For the monsoon season of the current year, there is a stock of fertilizer as per the demand and the fertilizer should be distributed without inconvenience to the farmers, said Agriculture Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy.
The Minister, who reviewed the progress with the Vice Chancellors of the Agriculture Department, Watershed Development Department and 5 Agricultural Universities in the committee room of Vikas Soudha on Wednesday, called on the officers and staff to work hard for the welfare of the farming community, realizing the government’s wishes.
In Karnataka, agriculture is the main activity of the masses, and it is the responsibility of the government and the department to look after the welfare of the farmers and agricultural workers involved in this field, and deliver the fruits of the projects to their doorsteps without making them wander, the Minister directed.
Agriculture in the state is mostly rain-fed. Therefore, he said, create more awareness about crop insurance and ensure that all farmers are covered by this scheme.
The achievements shown by the department in the last 2 years are commendable for serving the people’s concerns, but the same kind of progress is expected in all districts. Minister Chaluvarayaswamy warned that stern action will be taken against negligent officials.
The meeting was attended by Agriculture Department Commissioner YS Patil, Watershed Development Department Commissioner UP Singh, Agriculture Department Director Dr GT Putra, Watershed Development Department Director Banthanal, Secondary Agriculture Director Venkataraman Reddy and senior officials of the department including the Vice Chancellors of Bangalore, Shivamogga, Dharwad, Raichur, and Mandya Agricultural Universities.
Points to be noted
