The Karnataka Congress has launched a strong attack on JD(S) leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy following his recent praise of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Nikhil had described the RSS as an organisation that has been serving the nation for the past 100 years. His remarks drew sharp criticism from the Congress, which accused him of betraying his party’s core ideology for political gain.
In a Facebook post, the Congress said, “You have abandoned your own party’s principles in your pursuit of power. The people of Karnataka are well aware that hypocrisy runs in your blood. Let us remind you of what your father and grandfather once said about the RSS.”
The Congress highlighted past statements from Nikhil’s grandfather, former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, who had declared, “The RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal and Shiv Sena are communal organisations that should be banned.” Similarly, Nikhil’s father, former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, had questioned the true intentions of the RSS, stating, “If the RSS is only a service organisation, why the hunger for political power? Isn’t it true that the Modi government takes orders from Nagpur? This is not minimum government, maximum governance — it is minimum democracy, maximum authoritarianism.”
Taking a direct jibe at Nikhil, the Congress added, “Will you now clarify why your father and grandfather spoke out against the RSS? Were they wrong back then, or are you being untruthful now?”
