Mangaluru
The Karnataka state cabinet has approved a proposal for the development of a new Technology Park at Blueberry Hills in Mangaluru, marking a major boost to the coastal city’s growing digital and innovation ecosystem.
The announcement was made by Priyank Kharge, Minister for Electronics, IT/BT, and Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, through a post on X on Friday. The minister, who is also the MLA from Chittapur, said the project aligns with the government’s efforts to promote regional technology clusters under the Local Economic Acceleration Program (LEAP).
According to the minister, the project will be built on a 3.28-acre site at Blueberry Hills with a total investment of ₹135 crore. It will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and is expected to generate over 11,000 direct and indirect jobs once operational.
Kharge said the proposed Technology Park would feature Grade-A office space, modern infrastructure, and plug-and-play facilities to attract technology-driven enterprises from sectors such as IT, Fintech, and Marinetech.
“Mangaluru cluster alone contributes nearly 5.5% to Karnataka’s GSDP, underlining its importance as an emerging growth hub. With a strong IT, Fintech, and Marinetech presence and growing GCC (Global Capability Centre) investments, Mangaluru is fast becoming a destination for technology-driven enterprises,” the minister stated in his post.
The new tech park is expected to play a key role in decentralising Karnataka’s IT growth beyond Bengaluru, providing an impetus to Tier-2 innovation hubs across the state. It also complements the government’s broader goal of strengthening employment opportunities in coastal Karnataka by nurturing startups, digital service firms, and global technology partners.
The LEAP initiative, under which the project has been planned, aims to localise and scale Karnataka’s IT ecosystem, encouraging companies to expand operations in emerging cities with improved infrastructure and policy support.
