In a traditional ritual seeking good rainfall, bountiful crops, village development, and protection, villagers of Kotigemachenahalli offered 101 coconuts to Lord Udbhava Basavanna.
The idol of Udbhava Basavanna is located near the Sasalu Chinnamma Padalu Bunde, about 1 km from the village. As part of an annual tradition, villagers personally visited the site this year as well, breaking 101 coconuts in front of the deity while praying for ample rainfall, crop prosperity, and the overall development and protection of the village. Each household contributed ingredients required for the offerings, including rice and lentils. After the rituals, the prasadam (holy offerings) was distributed among the devotees.
According to local elders, the practice dates back several years when a villager, while tending sheep, goats, and cows near Sasalu Chinnamma Padalu Bunde, discovered the idol of Udbhava Basavanna. That very night, it is believed the deity appeared in his dream, instructing that offering 101 coconuts annually and distributing prasadam to devotees would fulfill their wishes. Since then, the village has continued this tradition to ensure the prosperity and welfare of the community.
Among the villagers present during this year’s ritual were Murthy, Timmapa, Marappa, Ramesh, and Ramappa.
