In a tragic incident, a private bus carrying wedding guests overturned and fell into a canal near Sugatur village in Kolar taluk late on Tuesday night, leaving more than 30 people injured. The passengers were returning home after attending a wedding reception when the mishap occurred.
The wedding was between a bride from Kolar and a groom from Dibburahalli village in Shidlaghatta taluk of Chikkaballapur district. The reception had been held at Ratna Kalyana Mantapa on the outskirts of Kolar. After the celebration, guests boarded three private buses to return to Dibburahalli. One of the buses reportedly lost control while negotiating a turn and plunged into the roadside canal.
The bus had around 55 passengers on board, of whom over 30 sustained injuries, including 10 who are in serious condition. Among the injured were about 15 women. Many passengers were thrown into the water as the vehicle overturned, triggering chaos and panic.
Locals and other passengers quickly rushed to rescue the victims and alerted authorities. The injured were immediately shifted to Kolar District Hospital for treatment. Police officials from Kolar Rural Station visited the spot and conducted an inspection.
Reports suggest that some passengers lost their gold ornaments and mobile phones in the canal during the accident. The incident has cast a shadow of fear and shock over the wedding families, who gathered at the hospital to check on the victims’ condition.
