Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, who recently underwent a successful pacemaker implantation surgery in Bengaluru, and wished him a swift recovery.

Taking to X, PM Modi said, “Spoke to Kharge Ji. Enquired about his health and wished him a speedy recovery. Praying for his continued well-being and long life.” The procedure was conducted on Wednesday at a private hospital in Bengaluru. Kharge’s family confirmed he would resume work from October 3.

Priyank Kharge, Minister for RDPR, IT and BT and son of Mallikarjun Kharge, shared in a media statement that the surgery was short and minor, and the Congress chief was stable afterwards. He expressed gratitude for the public’s concern and support.

Kharge had been advised to undergo the procedure after experiencing fever, fatigue, and leg pain. He is currently under treatment at MS Ramaiah Hospital. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited him on Wednesday, enquiring about his health and wishing him a quick recovery. The Chief Minister mentioned Kharge had come for a routine check-up following minor uneasiness.

Earlier, Kharge had been admitted after fatigue and breathing issues following his active participation in the Bihar election campaign, during which he criticised the BJP and Prime Minister Modi. Recently, he accused the BJP of attempting “vote theft” in Bihar and urged citizens to safeguard their voting rights.

Kharge’s resumption of work from October 3 is awaited as political activity intensifies ahead of the Bihar elections.
