Israel Thanks Modi
New York
Israeli Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, on Tuesday expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for endorsing the US-led peace initiative aimed at resolving the Gaza conflict, urging other nations to join the effort.
Azar’s remarks came a day after US President Donald Trump unveiled his 20-point peace plan at the White House, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu present. Speaking at a press briefing in New Delhi, Azar called the development “historic” and described the plan as a comprehensive framework not only to end the ongoing hostilities but also to envision a stable and prosperous future for the region.
Prime Minister Modi welcomed the initiative, posting on X that the plan offers a viable path to long-term peace, security, and development for both Israelis and Palestinians, and contributes to broader West Asian stability.
Azar highlighted the wide international support for the proposal, noting backing from Arab and Muslim countries as well as Prime Minister Modi. He encouraged more nations to join in supporting the initiative.
The envoy outlined the conditions for Palestinian self-governance, emphasizing the need for governance reforms, rule of law, free press, fair elections, human rights protections, an independent judiciary, transparent financial institutions, and anti-corruption measures. Education reforms, civilian control, full demilitarization, and compliance with the peace framework were also cited as essential.
Azar underscored the role of regional stakeholders, particularly Egypt and Qatar, in facilitating consensus, and expressed hope for Gaza’s de-radicalization, economic cooperation, and the release of hostages within a proposed 72-hour timeframe.
