Encroachment cleared on Mahadevapura Metro stretch

Acting on the directions of Bengaluru East City Corporation Commissioner D.S. Ramesh, civic officials carried out a major encroachment clearance drive along the busy Singayyanapalya to Garudachar Palya Metro corridor on Friday. The operation was led by the executive engineers of the Mahadevapura division and focused on restoring pedestrian pathways that had been blocked by unauthorized structures and roadside extensions.

The stretch between the two Metro stations is one of the most heavily used commuter routes in the eastern part of the city, with thousands of passengers relying on pedestrian access daily. However, footpaths had increasingly been encroached upon by temporary sheds, street vendors, and extended shop fronts, forcing pedestrians onto the main carriageway and creating safety hazards.

During the drive, civic workers dismantled illegal structures and cleared debris from the pedestrian paths, making them more accessible to the public. Officials emphasized that the operation was aimed at ensuring smooth pedestrian movement, reducing traffic congestion, and improving overall safety for Metro users and local residents. The Commissioner has instructed the Mahadevapura division to maintain regular monitoring of the cleared stretches and to take swift action against any repeat encroachments. He also appealed to business owners and residents to cooperate with civic authorities by refraining from unauthorized use of footpath space. The Greater Bengaluru Authority has assured that such clearance operations will be intensified across other crowded Metro corridors and arterial roads in the coming weeks, as part of an ongoing initiative to improve urban mobility and pedestrian infrastructure.
