Nice Road Boom

BMTC Nice Road service boosts revenue

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s (BMTC) bus service on the Nice Road route has emerged as a major success, catering to around 3.5 lakh passengers every month and generating revenue of approximately Rs 1.46 crore. Launched on December 23, 2023, the service was introduced to address the growing demand of commuters, especially IT employees traveling to Electronic City, offering a convenient and time-saving alternative to congested city routes.

BMTC operates more than 60 buses on the route, completing 294 trips daily. The buses run every ten minutes from Electronic City Wipro Gate via Nice Road and from Madavara to Electronic City. According to officials, this route is highly preferred due to its affordable toll charges, reduced travel time, and seamless connectivity for passengers from areas such as Hassan, Tumkur, and other distant towns, who previously had to travel via Majestic, consuming 2-3 hours.

Passenger numbers and revenue have steadily increased since the route’s inception. Initially catering to 62,000 monthly travelers, the service now accommodates up to 4 lakh passengers per month. The revenue per month has similarly grown from Rs 1.39 crore in April 2025 to Rs 1.46 crore in August 2025, averaging Rs 4.89 lakh per day. Revenue per kilometer has also doubled, reflecting the route’s popularity. BMTC officials say the success of the Nice Road service has led to the addition of new buses, including a direct route from Tavarekere to Electronic City. Despite the expansion of the Metro Yellow Line, demand for these buses remains robust, making the Nice Road route one of BMTC’s most profitable services in Bengaluru.
