Rajendranagar slum waste awareness drive

In a bid to promote cleanliness and sustainable waste management, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) conducted an awareness programme on Sunday at Rajendranagar Slum, Adugodi, under the South City Corporation jurisdiction. The initiative focused on educating residents about proper waste segregation and maintaining hygienic surroundings.

Officials from GBA highlighted the importance of separating waste at the source, categorizing it into wet and dry waste, to facilitate efficient collection and recycling. They emphasized that practicing source segregation not only improves sanitation but also contributes to reducing environmental pollution and promoting sustainable urban living.

The programme included demonstrations on how to segregate household waste correctly and practical tips for keeping homes and community areas clean. Residents were encouraged to adopt regular cleaning routines, minimize single-use plastics, and compost organic waste wherever possible.

GBA officials also engaged with the local community to understand the challenges they face in managing waste and provided guidance on how municipal services can be better utilized. Posters, flyers, and interactive sessions were conducted to ensure maximum participation and awareness among residents.

Shri Karigowda, CEO of BSWML, stressed that such programmes are part of a larger effort by civic authorities to foster a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Bengaluru. He urged citizens to actively participate in maintaining sanitation in their neighborhoods and cooperate with municipal staff for effective waste management. This awareness drive marks another step towards making Bengaluru a cleaner city while empowering slum communities with knowledge and resources to manage their surroundings responsibly.
