West Indies head coach Darren Sammy has expressed strong confidence in his team’s pace bowlers ahead of the upcoming Test series in India. Despite Indian pitches favoring spinners, Sammy believes the West Indies fast bowlers have the skill and variety to take the 20 wickets needed to win a Test match.
The squad’s pace attack features Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Anderson Phillip, and Jayden Seales, along with all-rounder Justin Greaves. Sammy highlighted their different bowling styles—Shamar’s skiddy pace, Jayden’s swing, and Alzarri’s bounce—as key strengths that can succeed in Indian conditions.
West Indies have struggled in India, without a Test win since 1994 and no series win for 42 years. Recent performances saw heavy defeats, but Sammy is optimistic this pace lineup will challenge Indian batsmen effectively. “We take confidence in their bowling over the last year,” he said.
Sammy also explained the decision to drop opener Kraigg Brathwaite and bring back Tagenarine Chanderpaul, praising Tage’s recent form and ability to play spin. The West Indies will look to break their long drought in India by focusing on their varied and confident pace attack.
