Vijayapura
Continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days has disrupted life across Vijayapura district. In Indi taluk, villages including Gundavan, Kapanimbaragi, Kudagi, and Balolli have been severely affected, with hundreds of acres of maize, millet, pigeon pea, groundnut, and onioncrops destroyed.
Road connectivity to many villages has been severed. Key routes such as Nandaragi to Kapanimbaragi Cross, Shiganapur to Dhumkanal, Gundavan to Anjutagi, and Choragi remain closed. In Gundavan, approach roads to hamlets like Valikar, Biradar, Talawar, Takkalaki, and Dangiare submerged, leaving residents stranded.
The city of Vijayapura has also been battered by incessant rain over the last two days. Several low-lying areas have been inundated, forcing residents to wade through waterlogged streets. Severe waterlogging was reported near the central bus stand, petrol pumps, and on major roads, where vehicles were stranded in waist-deep water.
Residents have voiced anger at municipal authorities, blaming them for failing to manage the crisis effectively. Normal life remains disrupted, with schools, markets, and public transport struggling to operate amid the ongoing deluge.
