Mangaluru Hosts 66th Rotoquiz, 120 Teams Participate

MANGALURU

The Mangaluru round of the 66th edition of the Ramnarayan Chellaram Rotoquiz — recognised as the world’s longest-running quiz contest — was held on Sunday at the SDM PG Centre for Management and Research, drawing a record 120 teams from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Mangalore and the Rotaract Club of SDM MBA, the event was sponsored by Ideal Ice Cream, which is celebrating its 50th year. The quiz is annually conducted by the Rotary Club of Bangalore.

The contest saw participation from 240 students, ranging from Class 11 to post-graduate level. Proceedings began with a briefing by quizmaster Rtn. S.V.L. Narayan, followed by a 30-minute written preliminary round. The top four teams advanced to the stage finals featuring audio, video, rapid fire, and buzzer rounds.

Ira Jain and Rishabh Naik from CFAL, Mangalore, clinched the first prize, while Roshan V. Billava and Venu H.R. of SDM College, Ujire, secured second place. The third prize went to Nabeel Mohammed and Mohammed Saquib of Yenepoya Medical College, while the team of Mohammed Ausaf Ihsaan and John Anthony Fernandes from IGNOU took fourth place.

Cash prizes of ₹15,000, ₹10,000, ₹6,000, and ₹4,000 were awarded to the top four teams, along with trophies and certificates. The winners also received an online course subscription worth ₹16,000.

Mr. Mukund Kamath, Managing Director of Ideal Ice Cream and chief guest, distributed the prizes. He was felicitated by Rotary members with a cake designed as a replica of the iconic “Gadbad” ice cream.

The winners will now represent Mangalore in the finals at Bangalore on September 22. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Rtn. Balachandra Rao, convenor of the Rotoquiz Mangalore prelims.
