The Department of Sainik Welfare and Rehabilitation, along with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), inaugurated a free legal aid centre in Shivamogga under the Veer ParivarSahayataYojana–2025. The scheme is designed to assist serving and retired defence personnel and their dependents facing legal problems.

The programme, organised in collaboration with the National Legal Services Authority and Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA), was formally launched online by Justice AnuSivaraman, Executive Chairperson of KSLSA. “This is a meaningful platform for veterans who sacrificed their youth for the country and now need support in resolving legal difficulties,” she observed.

At the launch, Wing Commander (Retd) M.S. Lolaksha, Director of Sainik Welfare, said the centre would provide vital assistance to retired soldiers. “Issues such as pensions, land disputes, and inheritance rights can now be resolved with free professional guidance,” he said.

District Judge Preethi K.P., Senior Civil Judge Santosh M.S., and department officials participated in the function. Deputy Director Dr. C.A. Hiremath informed that ex-servicemen from Shivamogga, Davangere, and Chitradurga could benefit from the service. Weekly sessions will be handled by retired army officer and legal expert Dr. H.M. Nataraj.

The centre will handle both pending and fresh cases involving pensions, property disputes, family matters, and other legal rights, with no fees charged. Beneficiaries may contact 08182-220925 during working hours or use the national helpline 15100.

Members of ex-servicemen’s associations, district officials, and community representatives attended the event.
