Taluk Medical Officer Dr. BV Girish emphasized that if tuberculosis is detected in one place, it exists everywhere. He spoke at a programme organized by the Health Department at the Urdu School under Nehru Nagar Health Center, focusing on tuberculosis detection. Dr. Girish highlighted that public cooperation is vital to achieving the government’s goal of a tuberculosis-free community.

People exhibiting symptoms such as a cough lasting more than two weeks, phlegm, blood in phlegm, weight loss, or loss of appetite should get tested at government hospitals without fail. If confirmed, free medication will be provided at their doorstep. He urged families to strictly follow the stipulated guidelines to help eradicate the disease.

Taluk Health Education Officer B. Moogappa advised not to fear tuberculosis, assuring that prescribed treatment is available. Family members of patients should get tested, follow precautionary measures, and ensure the patient uses a handkerchief when coughing, avoids spitting in public, maintains personal hygiene, consumes nutritious food, and adheres to medical advice to recover and work toward a tuberculosis-free district.

During the programme, Harish and Soumya from the Tuberculosis Control Office conducted X-rays for 75 people, identifying two individuals with suspicious symptoms for further testing. Health Inspectors Hanumanthappa, Praveen Kumar, Rekha, Primary Health Protection Officers Meenakshi, ASHA workers Jayalakshmi, Netravathi, Bhagya, Kenchamma, Meenakshi, Kavita, and members of the public were also present.

District Health Education Officer Krishna Nayak informed that the government provides Rs 1,000 directly to tuberculosis patients’ bank accounts through DBT during treatment to support nutritious food. He urged patients to make full use of this benefit and follow precautionary measures to maintain their health.
