Congress MLA Satish Sail Sent to Two-Day ED Custody

Congress MLA Satish Sail has been remanded to two days of ED custody in a money laundering case following his recent arrest.

A special court for public representatives has remanded Congress MLA Satish Sail to two days of Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody in connection with an alleged money laundering case. Sail, who was arrested on Tuesday, will be produced before the court again on September 12 at 5 pm.

During the hearing, Sail’s lawyers sought interim bail citing his health condition, while the ED requested custody to carry out further investigation. Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat granted the agency’s plea and ordered Sail into two days of custody.

The arrest follows ED raids on August 13 and 14 at Sail’s residence and associated premises. Officials reportedly seized ₹1.68 crore in cash, 6.75 kg of gold biscuits, and froze bank accounts containing ₹14.13 crore. The agency also collected extensive documents related to the alleged illegal iron ore export case.

Sail had been out on bail in a related illegal mining case before being taken into custody again. The ED claims that further questioning is essential to trace money trails and the role of other individuals and companies involved.

The development marks a major escalation in the case, which has already sparked political controversy in Karnataka. Congress leaders have accused the ED of acting under political pressure, while the agency maintains it is pursuing a court-directed investigation. The next hearing is expected to determine whether the MLA will face extended custody or be granted bail after the two-day remand ends.
