Alcaraz’s secret camp key to US Open triumph

His win secured a second US Open, youngest with six Grand Slams, ending Sinner’s 65-week ATP reign, starting 37 weeks as world No. 1

Carlos Alcaraz’s second US Open title and return to the world No. 1 spot were the result of a carefully planned 15-day training camp, his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero revealed on Monday.

Ferrero said the camp focused on fine details to counter Italy’s Jannik Sinner, who had beaten Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final just two months ago. The Spaniard’s team studied Sinner’s strengths and worked on adding more variety and precision to Alcaraz’s game, especially for the hard-court challenge.

“It was very important because we trained with clear focus on what needed to improve against Jannik,” Ferrero explained. “Carlos realised what he had to change, and he was very committed.”

The preparation paid off as Alcaraz produced a commanding 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory in the final. The win not only secured his second US Open crown but also made him the youngest male player in history to hold six Grand Slam titles. He also ended Sinner’s 65-week stay at the top of the ATP rankings, beginning his 37th week as world No. 1.

Ferrero praised Alcaraz’s discipline and tactical awareness during the match. “Carlos executed the plan perfectly. He applied pressure early and never let Jannik settle. His variety—using slices, net play, and changes of pace—gave him the edge,” he said.

The rivalry between Alcaraz and Sinner continues to shape men’s tennis, with both players pushing each other to new levels. For now, Alcaraz’s preparation and adaptability have put him back at the very top.
