Goa to host India-Singapore Asian Cup clash

New Delhi

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has announced that Goa will host India’s AFC Asian Cup Final Round Qualifier Group C home game against Singapore on October 14. The match will be played at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, a venue known for hosting many memorable football matches.

The fixture will be vital for India, who are struggling in the group stage. Earlier on October 9, India will face Singapore in the away leg at the National Stadium, making it a decisive double-header. Results from these two matches could determine the qualification path for both teams.

Currently, Singapore lead the group with four points from two matches, having secured one win and one draw. India, however, are at the bottom of the table with just a single point after a draw and a defeat. To keep their chances alive for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia, the Blue Tigers must deliver strong performances in both encounters.

Only the group winners will qualify directly for the Asian Cup, which will feature 24 teams, including the hosts. For India, who appeared in the last two editions of the tournament, this campaign is a chance to continue proving their strength at the continental level. The Goa match is expected to draw strong local support, as football enjoys passionate following in the state.
