Shivakumar reflects on political criticism, suggesting silence and delegation to spokespersons amid rising controversies.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has expressed frustration over the constant criticism he faces whenever he makes a statement, remarking that silence may sometimes be the best option in politics.
Speaking to the media outside his residence in Sadashivanagar, Shivakumar said that truth is often unpalatable to many, which is why his words frequently attract unnecessary controversy. “Whenever I speak—whether in the Assembly or elsewhere—people only look for faults. Politicians, leaders, and even dignitaries seem more interested in finding mistakes than in understanding the intent behind my statements,” he said.
He added that this pattern has made him reconsider whether It is worthwhile to comment on every issue. “It sometimes feels better not to speak at all. There are other leaders and party spokespersons who can respond to such matters. People should approach them instead,” Shivakumar noted, subtly distancing himself from certain ongoing debates.
Shivakumar’s comments come amid heightened political tensions in the state, where every remark by senior leaders quickly becomes the subject of partisan debate. His statement reflects both his personal exasperation and the charged atmosphere in Karnataka’s political landscape.
Political analysts believe Shivakumar’s remarks may be a calculated attempt to reduce direct confrontations while allowing his party’s official spokespersons to handle sensitive issues. However, critics argue that as a senior leader, he cannot completely withdraw from making public statements, especially when key decisions or controversies demand his intervention. Despite his assertion, Shivakumar continues to be one of the most outspoken figures in state politics, known for his sharp remarks and bold positions.
