BMTC drivers trained on road safety awareness

In a bid to improve traffic discipline and enhance commuter safety, the Traffic Management Centre (TMC) organised a special awareness session for Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) drivers. The initiative focused on sensitising drivers about responsible driving practices, adherence to traffic rules, and the crucial role they play in ensuring safer roads across the city.

Experts at the session highlighted the importance of lane discipline, respecting speed limits, and giving priority to pedestrians. They urged drivers to avoid distractions such as mobile phone usage while on duty and emphasised the need to keep vehicles in proper condition. Safety measures for passengers, particularly during peak hours when buses are overcrowded, were also discussed in detail. “BMTC drivers are the backbone of Bengaluru’s public transport system. By setting an example in traffic discipline, they can influence thousands of daily commuters and promote safer road practices across the city,” a TMC official said.

The session included interactive discussions where drivers shared their daily challenges, ranging from congestion and rash driving by other motorists to pressure of maintaining schedules. Officials assured them that these concerns would be taken into account when devising long-term solutions for smoother traffic management. According to traffic police data, frequent violations and lack of awareness among motorists remain key causes of Bengaluru’s road accidents and congestion. Through such training programs, authorities aim to build a culture of discipline and accountability among public transport drivers, thereby reducing accidents and easing traffic snarls in the city.
