Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for urban development projects worth Rs 2,548 crore in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar on Monday and Tuesday, marking a major milestone in Gujarat’s two-decade urban development journey.
The initiative coincides with the state celebrating its Urban Development Year and highlights infrastructure enhancements initiated under Modi’s leadership as Gujarat Chief Minister. In Ahmedabad, projects totaling Rs 2,267 crore include slum rehabilitation, water supply schemes, and road and traffic upgrades.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), 1,449 slums in Sector-3 of Ramapir Tekra are being rehabilitated at a cost of over Rs 133 crore, featuring community plots, health centres, Anganwadis, solar rooftops, and PNG gas connections. AUDA is implementing a 15-lakh-litre water pumping station with a 23 km trunk main in Daskroi taluka, benefiting ten villages.
Infrastructure upgrades in Ahmedabad include new stormwater drainage systems, water distribution stations, the four-lane Asarwa Railway Over Bridge, a mini sports complex in South Bopal, and road enhancements in TP Schemes 139/C, 141, and 144. The main four-lane road is being expanded into a six-lane expressway, with 32 km of four-lane service roads and 30 km of three-lane service roads, costing Rs 1,624 crore.
In Gandhinagar, projects worth Rs 281 crore include upgraded roads, sanitation improvements, flood mitigation measures, and continuous clean water supply for over 55,000 residents. Additional initiatives cover sewage treatment, village-level drainage networks, and stormwater and sewer line upgrades in multiple localities. These projects aim to modernize urban infrastructure, improve ease of living, and strengthen metropolitan planning in Gujarat, supporting the state’s ongoing urban transformation.
