Koppal
With over one lakh cusecs of water being released from the Tungabhadra reservoir, authorities have suspended traffic on the Gangavathi-Kampli bridge fearing submersion.
Assistant Executive Engineer Vishwanath of the Public Works Department issued written instructions to Gangavathi Rural Police to halt traffic as a precautionary measure. The closure will cut off the direct inter-district link between Koppal and Bellary.
Currently, river water is flowing just a few feet below the bridge, and any further release of 10,000–15,000 cusecs could submerge it entirely. Officials from the Revenue and Police Departments have been directed to enforce the ban on movement.
Traffic between Gangavathi–Kampli and Bellary–Koppal will now be diverted until water levels recede. By Sunday evening, one lakh cusecs had already been released from the reservoir.
