Over 10,500 Minor Rape Cases Reported in K’taka in 2 Years

BENGALURU

Karnataka has recorded a total of 10,510 rape cases involving minor girls between 2023 and July 2025, including incidents from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s home district of Mysuru.

The figures were shared by Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara in response to an unstarred question by MLA Gururaj Shetty in the Legislative Assembly. Shivamogga reported the highest number of cases at 589, followed by Hassan with 420, which had earlier drawn national attention due to the Prajwal Revanna case. Tumakuru, Dr. Parameshwara’s home district, saw 483 cases during the same period.

Mysuru city reported 158 cases in 2023, 139 in 2024, and 39 up to July 2025, while Mysuru district logged 99 cases in 2025. Statewide, 3,902 cases were recorded in 2023, 4,064 in 2024, and 2,544 by July 2025. Between April and June 2025 alone, 1,104 POCSO cases were filed.

In Bengaluru city, 627 cases were recorded in 2023, 638 in 2024, and 319 in 2025. Several districts, including Belagavi, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, and Mandya, also reported significant numbers.

Of the total cases, 126 convictions occurred in 2023 and 36 in 2024, while thousands remain under trial. Over the past five years, 14,074 arrests were made in rape cases, including 8,909 during the BJP government’s two-year tenure.

Former Home Minister Araga Jnanendra had earlier noted that strict POCSO enforcement, increased public awareness, and reduced fear among survivors have led to more cases being reported rather than going unregistered.
