BJP District President Sudarshan Moodbidri, MLAs D Vedavyas Kamath and Y Bharath Shetty have demanded a thorough investigation into the case of girls placing a mobile phone camera in a washroom in Udupi.
Sudarshan said that there is a suspicion of the incident being a part of a larger conspiracy connected to love jihad. He demanded a thorough investigation to find out whether external forces are behind the incident, and why the police delayed in registering an FIR.

Though the incident took place on July 18, the police registered a suo motu FIR after a week. We condemn the soft stand of the government and Udupi district administration towards the incident. Moreover, the statement of the Udupi SP, that the police have not received complaints and evidence regarding the case were unfortunate. The police have portrayed the incident as a childish act of students. Instead of taking action against the girls, the police tried to threaten activists who warned the government against the incident, Sudarshan said.
He demanded that the government should form a special team to investigate the case. Technology should be used to find whether the video footage shot from the washroom was shared with others. Police should also investigate whether such instances took place earlier. Forwarding such video footage will lead to blackmailing of girls who fall victim in future. We have witnessed several instances of girls being trapped for love jihad through blackmail in Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and other states,” he said, and suspected the involvement of others in helping the girls to record videos in washrooms.
The Dakshina Kannada BJP will stage a protest near the Ambedkar Statue at Town Hall in the city on July 31, he said.
