As the incessant downpour continues in the district and all rivers including Krishna are flowing in full slate, the District Administration has banned entry of tourists to all waterfalls across the district including the famous Gokak waterfalls. Despite rains, thousands of nature lovers are thronging waterfalls, especially in the forest covered Khanapur taluk, besides famous waterfalls in Gokak and Godachinamalki, both in Gokak taluk. The flocking of tourists at the waterfalls is creating a huge rush and leading to traffic jams. Moreover, unsafe moves at these waterfalls are also causing casualties. Recently, a youth died at Shimbola waterfalls in Khanapur taluk. Considering all these aspects, the District Administration has banned tourists from visiting waterfalls in the district.
Deputy Commissioner Nitesh Patil stated that the decision has been taken keeping the safety of tourists in mind. It is just a precautionary measure to avoid casualties. I urge the people not to visit waterfalls and go on treks, especially in forest areas, as there are chances of landslide, he said. Police personnel have been deployed at all major waterfalls. They are also sending back the tourists on their way to waterfalls.
