An Indian athlete, Devappa More (50), a 3-feet-tall man from Kadankoppa village in Kalghatagi taluk, who was pushed into trouble due to a drought-like situation in the district, got support from the people of the city.
To help and encourage Devappa to participate in the 8th World Dwarf Games in 2023, to be held in Germany from July 28, various associations and individuals have come forward to support him.
MLC Pradeep Shettar, Karnataka Gymkhana Association (KGA), players of the Karnataka Gymkhana Badminton Premier League, and VSV Prasad of Swarna Groups have contributed money for the success of Devappa.
VSV Prasad, Chairman, Swarna Group of Companies, declared a financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to Devappa. It is not the first time we are helping him, in 2021, when I came to know that Devappa More and his family was going through severe financial problems due to Covid-19, I visited his village and gave him Rs 30,000 to repair his house and gave assistance for his daughter’s education, he recalled.

Veeranna Savadi, Secretary, KGA, said that it is a matter of pride that a dwarf sportsman from district is representing India in the World Dwarf Games.   KGA management decided to extend a helping hand to the sportsman, and also felicitate and wish him the best in the world games, he said.
I strongly appeal to the District Administration, and the State Government to encourage such sporting person by all means. It’s unfortunate to know that the District Administration is not at all bothered. KGA will always encourage and motivate sporting activities and also sport personalities in need, he added.
