Japan has formally asked China for a detailed explanation regarding the stabbing death of a 10-year-old boy in Shenzhen. The boy, who had a Japanese father and a Chinese mother, was attacked about 200 meters from his school on Wednesday morning.
According to Chinese authorities, the incident occurred around 8 am as the boy was walking to school. He suffered severe abdominal wounds and was pronounced dead early Thursday. The assailant, a 44-year-old man, was quickly apprehended by police at the scene.
Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa expressed serious concern over the incident, stating that such acts should never occur, especially against children. In light of this tragedy, Japan has urged China to enhance safety measures for its citizens living and studying in the country.
This incident is the second violent attack on Japanese students in China in recent months. Following the stabbing, Japan’s ambassador to Beijing emphasized the need for improved security for Japanese nationals.
Chinese Foreign Vice Minister Sun Weidong described the attack as an ‘isolated incident’ involving an individual with a criminal history. Japan continues to press China for more information on the event and for increased safety measures.
