Massive fire destroys Malleshwaram furniture shop

Residents evacuated safely as authorities battle early-morning blaze, prompting safety reviews.

A major fire broke out in the early hours of Friday at a furniture shop on Pipeline Road in Malleshwaram, resulting in damages estimated at Rs 5 crore. The blaze, which started around 2:30 am, also spread to three neighboring apartment buildings, raising concerns among residents in the area.

Authorities reported that approximately 10 workers were sleeping inside the shop when the fire ignited. Neighbors alerted them, and all were safely evacuated. Initial investigations suggest that a short circuit may have triggered the fire, though the exact cause is yet to be confirmed. Thirteen firefighters battled the blaze for several hours to contain it and prevent further spread to nearby properties.

Health Minister Dinesh Gundurao visited the site to assess the situation and coordinate relief measures. The incident has prompted city officials to review fire safety protocols, especially in commercial areas with high-risk electrical equipment and densely packed structures.

Local residents and shop owners have expressed shock over the scale of destruction, noting the rapid spread of flames and smoke throughout the neighborhood. Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the cause and assign responsibility, while also reviewing preventive measures for future incidents. This fire adds to a series of recent industrial and commercial accidents in Karnataka, highlighting the importance of strict safety inspections and adherence to fire codes. Officials emphasized the need for timely action to protect lives, property, and livelihoods in the densely populated areas of Bengaluru.
