SIT chief likely to be appointed CID head

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the Dharmasthala case has intensified, as SIT chief Pranab Mohanty met with Home Minister G. Parameshwar at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on Thursday to discuss developments in the investigation. The meeting comes amid the state government’s preparations to appoint a new Chief of the Crime Investigation Department (CID).

According to sources, SIT chief Pranab Mohanty is the frontrunner for the CID chief position. His appointment was reportedly discussed during a high-level meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday morning. Following the discussions, the government has indicated its preference for Mohanty to take over the role, reflecting confidence in his leadership during ongoing high-profile investigations.

Officials said that the formal order regarding the appointment is expected to be issued shortly, consolidating Mohanty’s position at the helm of the CID. His potential elevation comes at a critical juncture as the state government seeks to strengthen investigative oversight in sensitive cases, including the ongoing Dharmasthala probe. The SIT has been actively investigating multiple aspects of the case, and Mohanty’s experience is expected to ensure a more streamlined and rigorous investigation process. Government sources also indicated that his appointment will facilitate better coordination between the SIT and CID, enabling faster and more effective action in pending investigations and future cases of significant public interest.
