Atletico Madrid’s title hopes faded further after a 1-1 draw at Mallorca, conceding late after Sorloth’s red card despite Gallagher’s 79th-minute opener

FC Barcelona moved up to second in La Liga after a comfortable 3-0 victory over Getafe on Sunday night. Playing again at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, Hansi Flick’s side controlled the match from start to finish. Ferran Torres scored twice, assisted by Marcus Rashford and Dani Olmo, before Olmo added the third in the 62nd minute. Getafe, who managed just 28 percent possession, offered little threat.
Atletico Madrid’s title hopes suffered another blow after a 1-1 draw at Mallorca. Goalkeeper Leo Roman saved a Julian Alvarez penalty and made several fine stops before Conor Gallagher finally put Atletico ahead in the 79th minute. However, reduced to 10 men after Alexander Sorloth’s red card, Atletico conceded six minutes from time when Vedat Muriqi equalized. The result leaves Atletico nine points behind leaders Real Madrid and seven adrift of Barcelona.
Elsewhere, Rayo Vallecano and Celta Vigo shared a 1-1 draw, Borja Iglesias opening for Celta before Jorge de Frutos equalized. Newly promoted Elche continued their strong form, defeating Real Oviedo 1-0 through an Andre Silva strike to move into fifth place.
Real Madrid extended their perfect record with a 2-0 home win over Espanyol, courtesy of goals from Eder Militao and Kylian Mbappe. Villarreal beat Osasuna after a late deflection from Pape Gueye, while Valencia triumphed 2-0 over Athletic Bilbao following Dani Vivian’s red card.
Sevilla edged Alaves 2-1 with goals from Ruben Vargas and Alexis Sanchez. Levante stunned Girona 4-0 after the hosts had two players dismissed, with four different scorers for the visitors. On Friday, Betis overcame Real Sociedad 3-1, helped by Cucho Hernandez, Pablo Fornals, and an own goal.
