HESCOM is charging more than Rs 10,000 for providing new power connections to the pump sets of farmers, alleged Mallikarjun Ballari, General Secretary of  District Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene.

Electricity connections will not be provided unless more money is paid. This kind of rule exists only in our HESCOM and not in the rest of the power corporations, he said.

Out of the Rs 676 crore crop insurance sanctioned to the state, Rs 434 crore has been sanctioned to the district. The farmers’ union had fought a lot for the release of crop insurance. As a result of this, the highest number of crop insurance in the state has been released to the district, he said.

A total of 1,65,688 farmers had submitted 1,87,706 applications for crop insurance in the district. He Welcomed And Congratulated The Crop Insurance Companies For Announcing The Insurance. He also urged the banks in the district to give the farmers’ crop insurance money to the farmers, instead not break into their loans.

The government should provide compensation to the farmers affected by the rains at the earliest. Mallikarjun Ballari demanded that money should be given for the construction of houses for the farmers who lost their houses due to rains. Some banks are saying that cibil score will not come to recover loans to farmers and then give loans. As a result, farmers are committing suicide by taking loans from private parties at high interest rates. Bellary demanded that the government should immediately take special interest in farmers.
