Bengaluru Milk Union Limited (BAMUL) has formally urged the state government to increase the milk procurement price paid to dairy farmers by ₹10 per liter, BAMUL Director H.N. Ashok announced on Wednesday.
Speaking after launching road and drainage development works in Mayanayakanahalli village under the Kalya Gram Panchayat, Ashok voiced serious concern over mounting financial distress in the rural sector. He pointed out that while the current procurement rate stands at ₹37 per liter, the federation has appealed to the authorities to fix the minimum price between ₹45 and ₹46 per liter, transferring funds directly into farmers’ bank accounts.
Ashok stressed that dairy farming demands rigorous labor, requiring farmers to milk livestock twice a day without fail. At the same time, input costs have surged drastically. Feed, fodder, and general cattle maintenance expenses have reached unsustainable levels, to the extent that even cattle manure is no longer available freely. Consequently, prevailing procurement rates barely cover day-to-day upkeep, depriving cultivators of viable profit margins.
Addressing farmer grievances regarding sub-standard cattle feed supplied by KMF, Ashok acknowledged that livestock were refusing the feed. He attributed this disruption to administrative lapses during the board’s interim absence. To permanently resolve this shortage, a major modern feed manufacturing plant is being established in Channapatna.
Highlighting regional contributions, Ashok noted that Magadi and Kudur supply 2.25 lakh liters of milk daily, compared to 3.5 lakh liters from Channapatna. Citing the Nanjundappa Committee report on regional imbalances, he demanded taluk-level units to boost local animal husbandry.
Prominent local leaders attended the launch, including Block Congress President K. Krishnamurthy, T.G. Venkatesh, former Zilla Panchayat member M.K. Dhananjaya, JP Foundation President J.P. Chandregowda, former Taluk Panchayat President Narayanappa, and village functionaries.

Highlighting priority projects, Ashok announced a ten-lakh-rupee drinking water unit for devotees visiting the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple. He explained that extensive civic upgrades worth six crore rupees—including improved roads, drainage networks, and drinking water facilities—are underway across four villages in Kalya Gram Panchayat with state government and Asian Development Bank funds secured by Minister H.C. Balakrishna.
Ashok urged rival parties to shun petty politics and support collective progress, emphasizing that rural sanitation and public health remain prime administrative priorities.
