The District Advisory Committee on PC and PNDT has called for surprise inspections of scanning centres across Uttara Kannada to ensure proper compliance with rules on prenatal diagnosis.
Committee chairman Dr. Naresh Pawaskar, resident disease specialist at CRIMS, gave the direction while chairing a meeting at the District Health and Family Welfare Officer’s office on Thursday.
He said selected scanning centres in different taluks should be inspected simultaneously. Officials should check required records and thoroughly examine procedures related to prenatal diagnosis during these visits. Documents submitted by newly registered scanning centres should also be carefully verified before permission is granted, he said.
There are currently 82 scanning centres operating in the district, according to officials. The committee stressed regular monitoring to ensure that centres follow legal requirements and maintain proper records.
District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Sanjaya Doddamani, who is the committee member secretary, attended the meeting.
CRIMS Associate Professor and paediatrics department head Dr. Pawan Kumar D, radiologist Dr. Chandana Nayak, District Information Officer B. Shivakumar and other committee members also participated in the discussion.
