Hindalco opens India’s first Superfine ATH Plant

CH NEWS, BELAGAVI

Hindalco Industries Limited has commissioned India’s first greenfield Super Fine Precipitated Aluminium Trihydrate (PPT ATH) manufacturing unit in Belagavi, Karnataka. The Aditya Birla Group company said the new facility will initially produce 30,000 tonnes a year, with plans to raise capacity to 60,000 tonnes soon.

The plant runs fully on renewable energy from biomass, solar and wind sources. It is designed to support local production of fire-safety cables and specialty alumina products, helping India reduce dependence on imports.

Hindalco’s proprietary InnoSafe Superfine PPT ATH is a halogen-free flame retardant. It helps suppress flames and smoke in Halogen-Free Flame Retardant cables, electric vehicles, polymer insulators and thermal insulation materials. Satish Pai, Managing Director, and Saurabh Khedekar, CEO of the Alumina Business, said the technology came from in-house research and development, showing Indian innovation for global markets.

Alongside industrial growth, Hindalco continues its community work through CSR programmes. Its Project Saksham currently reaches more than 82,000 people across seven villages near Belagavi, focusing on healthcare, education and women’s empowerment. The company said the initiative aims to improve everyday opportunities for families while supporting inclusive growth in communities around its operations. The new facility, meanwhile, is expected to strengthen Belagavi’s role in advanced manufacturing and support demand for safer materials in India’s growing industrial and electric mobility sectors, and create new opportunities for skilled workers in the region over time.
