Ballari tax office urged to improve taxpayer services

BALLARI

Income Tax officials should treat taxpayers with respect and provide proper facilities when they visit departmental offices, said Bharat R., Joint Director of the Income Tax (Investigation) Department, Hubballi Division.

He said taxpayers contribute to job creation and the country’s infrastructure and therefore deserve courteous treatment and appropriate consultation.

Bharat R. was speaking after inaugurating the new Income Tax Investigation Division office on the third floor of ABR Complex in KHB Colony, Netaji Nagar, on Wednesday. He said Ballari is an important commercial centre among the districts from Chitradurga to Bidar, with high GST registrations and substantial banking activity.

He said the department’s ‘Operation Nudge’ initiative had identified around 40 joint development agreement real estate projects in Ballari. More than 200 applications and complaints related to suspected tax evasion have also been received from the district, with about 40 cases recently disposed of. Further examination of banking transactions, surveys and raids will be conducted wherever necessary, he said.

Bharat said the department would regularly interact with chartered accountants and other professionals to improve understanding of local economic activities and strengthen tax compliance. Assistant Director Vijay Chandra said the investigation office had functioned from an old building for nearly two decades before moving to the new facility. He said the improved infrastructure would boost staff morale and help provide better public service.

Assistant Director K. Gopal Krishnamurthy expressed hope that the new office would help officials handle investigations more efficiently and successfully resolve important cases. Assistant Commissioners D. Panduraga and B.J. Ravi, senior Income Tax officials, staff members and representatives of the chartered accountants’ association attended the programme. The new office is expected to improve coordination and strengthen investigation work in the region.
