Siddaramaiah criticized Joshi over Bilkis Bano convicts’ release support, questioning his suitability to lead education and stressing student-focused leadership

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has criticised the appointment of Prahlad Joshi as Education Minister, saying the decision has disappointed people of Karnataka. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reconsider the allocation of the education portfolio and assign it to a suitable person.
In a statement on social media, Siddaramaiah said Karnataka should have felt proud that a state leader received an important national responsibility. However, he alleged that Joshi’s past statements on sensitive issues made his appointment unsuitable for the position.
Siddaramaiah accused Joshi of supporting the release of convicts involved in the Bilkis Bano case and questioned whether a person with such views should handle the education sector. He said the ministry requires leadership focused on students, teachers and social responsibility.
The former Chief Minister also compared Joshi with former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging that both leaders have similar ideological backgrounds. He claimed that their views on social issues were a matter of concern and demanded a change in leadership.
Siddaramaiah further said opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi had raised questions about Joshi’s role in Parliament. He added that while debates inside the House may end, public discussions on important issues would continue.
The remarks have sparked political debate between the ruling and opposition parties, with the education ministry appointment becoming the latest issue of disagreement in Karnataka politics.
