The crucial link road connecting Karnad to the Veerabhadra Temple at Manampadi under the Mulki Nagar Panchayat limits has turned into a major problem for commuters due to severe damage and lack of proper maintenance. The road, which is frequently used by residents, students and motorists, is now filled with potholes, making travel difficult and risky.
Locals said the condition of the road deteriorated after it was cut open for pipeline work. However, the restoration was allegedly not completed properly, resulting in the formation of large potholes on the stretch. The situation worsened further after the AMRUT 2.0 drinking water pipeline work was carried out in the area, causing additional damage to the road surface.
Residents have also blamed the absence of a proper drainage system for the worsening condition. During the rainy season, rainwater flows across the road, weakening the surface and creating more damage. The poor condition has become a daily challenge for commuters, especially during heavy rains.
The road serves as an important route for students and the public travelling from Karnad towards several key locations, including Venkataramana Temple, Dargah Masjid, Mylottu, Panjinadka, Falimaru and Vijaya College.
Social activist Sharath Karnad urged the Mulki Nagar Panchayat authorities to immediately take up repair works and provide temporary relief to commuters. He said that officials should act quickly before the situation worsens.
Warning of public protest, Sharath said that if authorities fail to respond, residents and activists will stage a demonstration in front of the Mulki administration building. Locals have appealed to officials to inspect the road and undertake permanent repair works at the earliest to ensure safe and smooth transportation.
