State Safai Karmachari Commission member C. Shankar Ankanashettipur directed officials to ensure timely delivery of government facilities and benefits to sanitation workers. He said authorities must protect the welfare of workers who play an important role in maintaining cleanliness in villages and towns.
He was speaking during a meeting held at the Mandya Taluk Panchayat Hall after interacting with sanitation workers from all Gram Panchayats under Mandya Taluk. He instructed officials to provide facilities according to government guidelines and warned that negligence would invite action from the commission.
Shankar said sanitation workers should receive their salaries before the fifth of every month without delay. He also stressed the need to provide essential safety equipment such as uniforms, gloves, gumboots, masks, and other protective materials. He said workers should not face difficulties while performing their duties.
He highlighted that the government has introduced several schemes for the education and development of children from sanitation worker families. Officials should ensure that eligible families receive these benefits and become part of the mainstream society. He also advised authorities to conduct regular health check-ups and spread awareness about welfare schemes related to health, safety, and financial support.
The commission member instructed officials to provide modern working tools, distribute Ayushman cards, organise training programmes, and take necessary steps to improve the working conditions of sanitation workers. He said protecting their health and dignity should be a priority.
District Social Welfare Officer Srinivas, Mandya Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Lokesh Murthy, and community leaders attended the meeting. Officials assured that necessary measures would be taken to improve facilities and ensure better support for sanitation workers across the district.
